Baptism for Children at St. James'

Baptism of Adrionna Tufaro
June 29, 2008

As Episcopal Christians, we bring our children to the font to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism during the Eucharistic liturgy on a Sunday or a Holy Day. We pray that God "give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, and a spirit to know and to love God, and the gift of joy and wonder in all God's works." For more about Baptism in the Episcopal Church, see (a) The Baptismal Liturgy in the Book of Common Prayer, pages 299-308, and (b) The Catechism for Holy Baptism (pages 858-859).

The holy promises made at Baptism are comparable to the holy promises made at Christian marriage; and therefore, preparation for the Holy Baptism is required for everyone. For those wishing to bring their children for Baptism, at least one parent must be a communicant member of St. James' Church. Please contact Fr. Marshall to discuss the Baptism of your children with him. Normal dates for Baptism include a Bishop's Visitation, The Baptism of Jesus (always early January), Easter, Pentecost, and All Saints' Day. Other Sundays or Holy Days are possible, although we do not baptize during Lent.
