St. James' Episcopal Church
Prince Caspian Super Saturday Event

June 28, 2008

Based on the novel "Prince Caspian" from the Chronicles of Narnia
Series by C. S. Lews

Eleven children from kindergarten through grade 5 attended the Prince Caspian Super Saturday event on Saturday, June 28 to celebrate and explore spiritual themes from the movie Prince Caspian, based upon the novel by C. S. Lewis from the Chronicles of Narnia series.

The Super Saturday event included storytelling, games, crafts, as well as a discussion, and question-and-answer period for the older children, and a “trip to Narnia” for the younger ones. The children enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Kurt Hilderbrand. Special treats including Rice Caspian Treats, Ancient Treasure Mix, Gumdrops, Veggies and Dip, were donated by Regina Jenkins and her committee. Gretchen Scheel led a team of youth and teens who donated their time to conduct games and award prizes. Craft activities for the younger children took the form of mask-making. The older children drew and painted large portraits of various Narnian characters such as Aslan, Susan, Reepicheep, and Prince Caspian. These paintings and a sample mask were displayed in the church afterward for all to see.

A special thanks to all who helped make this such a success: Father Kelly, Mary Ellen Maruschak, Louise Thorne, Michele DeRhodes, Gretchen and Lydia Scheel, Patrick Shamrock, Rachel, Kent and Walter Hilderbrand, Sharyn Fees, and John and Barbara Wigle. Thanks also to Bob Maruschak for videotaping and Doug Hotchkiss who set up tables and chairs and assisted with clean-up afterwards.

More Super Saturday events are being planned for the future, so watch for the dates!

"Blowing our  horns" is how we pray and enter the Narnian kingdom.

Fr. Kelly taught us part of a song:

All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all!!

Nurse Michele told us stories from the Bible.

Fr. John and Mrs.Wigle take the younger children on a
tour of Narnia.

Aslan comes to live through a mask making craft project.

We enjoyed a yummy lunch!
